I did a prep day in the art department for this video in June 2012. I helped make some movie magic – primarily painting things chroma blue and buying props.
“The universe set our limits long ago.
And so we abide by its laws. Good citizens of the ground.
But a few of us have grown tired of the rules…

FLY HIGH. LAND SOFT.”

I worked as the 2nd A.C. on this commercial in September of 2011, for Radical Media. It was shot at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon. The cameras used were four Canon DSLRs (various models) and several GoPros which were used to capture timelapse footage.

“We are taught how to move and behave in the external world, but we are never taught how to be still and examine what is within ourselves. At the same time, learning to be still and calm should not be made a ceremony or a part of any religion; it is a universal requirement of the human body. When one learns to sit still, he or she attains a kind of joy that is inexplicable. The highest of all joys that can ever be attained or experienced by a human being can be attained through meditation. All the other joys in the world are transient and momentary, but the joy of meditation is immense and everlasting.”
-Swami Rama, in Meditation and Its Practice, p. 9.; taken from Anatomy of Hatha Yoga by H. David Coulter.

“… Even the experiencer is secondary. Primary is the infinite expanse of consciousness, the eternal possibility, the immeasurable potential of all that was, is, and will be. When you look at anything, it is the ultimate you see, but you imagine that you see a cloud or a tree.
Learn to look without imagination, to listen without distortion: that is all. Stop attributing names and shapes to the essentially nameless and formless, realize that every mode of perception is subjective, that what is seen or heard, touched or smelt, felt or thought, expected or imagined, is in the mind and not in reality, and you will experience peace and freedom from fear.
Even the sense of ‘I am’ is composed of the pure light and the sense of being. The ‘I’ is there even without the ‘am’. So is the pure light there whether you say ‘I’ or not. Become aware of that pure light and you will never lose it. The beingness in being, the awareness in consciousness, the interest in every experience — that is not describable, yet perfectly accessible, for there is nothing else.”
– Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, from the book “I Am That”

Courier UI Concept Video, 2008 from Thomas Gage on Vimeo.
I edited a few Courier videos in 2008. It’s a shame that the Courier project didn’t make it, the idea is so cool! Quite a different vibe from the iPad or Android tablets out there right now.

BPN Summer Invite 2005 from Thomas Gage on Vimeo.
I edited this short video in the pre-YouTube age for Portland ad agency Borders Perrin and Norrander. Now an everyday occurrence, we were amazed when it went viral. The link was initially sent to clients and friends, but the video had to be taken down after a few days when the hits exceeded around 700,000. BPN got a bill from their web hosting company for what I believe was something like $60,000 for bandwidth overage. I’m not sure if they had to pay or not! Needless to say, the party was well-attended.
